Does Mark Ronson's Latest Protege Live Up to the Hype?

The Reviewer
Australian based soul crooner Daniel Merriweather is one of the brightest upcoming stars in all of music. He is prominently known for his smash hit Stop Me on Mark Ronson's album version. Now Daniel is poised to strike it on his own with his album Love & War. Will Love & War propel Daniel to superstardom?

The first single off of Love & War is Change featuring Washington DC based rapper Wale. The song is extremely relevant in this day and age. The song talks about how the world needs to change to be bettered. The track features catchy production, strong verses and a strong guest spot from Wale.

Water And A Flame features Grammy winning artist Adele. Both of the singers give extremely strong and touching vocal performances. Their vocals work well together and form a very nice blend.

For Your Money is one of the few ballads on the album. The track features a strong piano rift and strong storytelling. The vocal delivery is once again flawless. The minimalist approach to the song works extremely well.

Not Giving Up is one of the more up-tempo tracks on the album. The production on the song is extremely strong and the vocal arrangement works just as well.

The album opens up with Impossible which songs like Mark Ronson's work with Amy Winehouse. The track works well. The writing is not as deep or insightful as some of the other tracks but the song works well.

Chainsaw is another catchy song which has several bluesy elements to it. The song is easy on the ears and well delivered.

Getting Out sounds like a vintage Motown song. The song ebbs and flows at all the right moments and builds into another strong track.

All Of The People is one of the deeper tracks on the album. The writing is extremely interesting to listen to even more so than the track itself.

Giving Everything Away For Free is the perfect way to end the album. The song just has that sense of closure that most album lack. However, the track is solid and not just a throwaway.

Daniel Merriweather is one of the most promising male new artists in a long while. He fits the hole severely lacking in today's music. He is sort of like an Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Adele hybrid. This works extremely well for Daniel. Besides the strong production the album features some of the best vocal delivery in recent memory. Overall Love & War gets 8.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Daniel Merriweather, make sure you pick up Love & War when it is available in stores on April 27th.
