Daniel Windler of Defiance is Killed After SUV Strikes Him in Roadway

If you drove the streets of St. Charles, Missouri on Valentines Day this year, you were crazy. The snow fell most of the day and quickly turned to slush on the streets. The main roads were prepped and ready for the snowfall. Trucks plowed regularly and poured salt on the streets. But careful drivers were reducing their speed to a maximum of 25 in most areas regardless. The back roads, as usual, were not as carefully attended to and one area in particular caused a deadly accident.

Southbound state Route DD in St. Charles County was very slick. Casey N. Daniels, a fairly new driver at the age of 17, was driving on this St. Peters road about a half mile north of highway 94.

She was headed south on a downgrade at 8:20 pm when she noticed other vehicles sliding on the ice covered road and she slowed down. That is when she noticed Daniel E. Windler, 61, of Definace, Missouri, a pedestrian on the side of the road. She steered to the left but failed to avoid the pedestrian in the road. The right front of her Chevy Trailblazer struck the pedestrian who died at the scene at 8:35 pm.

Casey Daniels was wearing her seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries. Her vehicle, however, had to be towed from the scene by Crash City Towing of Darden Prairie.
