Danield Collins Sentenced to 18 Months for Forcing His Daughter to Stab the Family Kitten
Father Wanted His Children to "Learn How to Kill"
Per published news reports, Collins wanted his children to "learn how to kill." The children are currently in the custody of their grandparents. This sad homage to fatherhood started when the grandparents took the children and dropped them off at their fathers for a visit. The children reported to the police that their father was drunk when they arrived at his home for the visit. The kids also said that their father was a "different person" when he was drunk.
According to Pet-abuse.com, at some point during the visit the father passed out and when he came to, he ordered his seven year old daughter and eleven year old son to stab, Boots, the family's, eight month old, kitten. Initially he told the son to stab the cat. The young boy hid the cat under a sofa bed when his father went to the bathroom and placed ketchup on the knife to simulate blood in the hopes of fooling the father into believing the cat was dead.
Detective Jami Brown of the Muncie Police Department indicated that when the father realized the cat wasn't dead he searched for it and found it under the sofa. The father then told his seven year old daughter to stab the cat. The young girl told authorities that she held the knife against the cat. It was at this point that the father held the girls hand and stabbed the animal.
After this the father then stabbed the kitten again and strangled it in front of the children. The son further relayed to police that after the kitten was dead, the father told him to throw it into the garbage.
Collins does not dispute the children's account of the incident, however, he maintains that he was drunk and remembers nothing, except falling on the cat at some point. He is charged with domestic violence/animal cruelty and two counts of neglect of a dependent. Another charge for intimidation was dropped against Collins. Neither police nor news reports intimated from where the intimidation charge stemmed.

Put the whole scumsucking family except the kids out of their misery and start over. There's too many people in the world as it is. Animal cruelty should be punished by jailtime, sterilization, and torture. If I see Danny on the street, I'll take a crack at him.
I think he should have gotten more than just 18 months. He has not only killed an innocent animal but also hurt his children. What a scum bag! Excellent article.
Donna, Lauren and Saul, thanks for reading. My heart breaks when I think about what he has done to those kids. He has scarred them for life. Drinking does nothing but allows people to do things the wanted to do anyway and then blame it on the alcohol. I mean drinking to excess. This guy is dangerous!!!

My heart absolutely breaks when I hear stories about this. A poor kitten had to die like that and those poor children had to go through that. I can't believe some of the things people are capable of doing.
The crime is hideous and the repercussions for the children so very scary.

Thanks Genie and Michele. Genie those were my sentiments exactly. This can't have been the first time, he's been drunk and exhibited irrational behavior. I was wondering if the grandparents were questioned about their actions. Michele, I agree, I have been drunk off my behind and not once did I decide, nows the time to a. kill a defenseless animal or b. teach someone else to do it. He needs help and this family may beare looking at further.
