"Welcome to the Dollhouse" is all about girls being in love, out of love, and everywhere in between. "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is highly experimental into the dance realm. Most of "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is high energy and very movable which should transition into the clubs and hopefully into the record stores. Most of the strong track are hard stomping numbers and other songs that let the lyrics of the songs do all of the talking. In these slower songs, we really come to see Danity Kane as they really are. 5 girls who have been in and out of love, and can relate to every girl in the world.
"Welcome to the Dollhouse" has four interludes which is a bit much. Fans don't like songs that will be skipped over in a couple of weeks after buying the album. "Welcome to the Dollhouse" stand out tracks are "Damaged" feat. Diddy, "Lights Out", "Bad Girl" featuring Missy Elliott, and "Poetry". "Welcome to the Dollhouse" first single, "Damaged", is a great dance track which finds the girls of Danity Kane talking about meeting a new guy and telling him that they have been damaged by previous relationships. They ask him what he will do to change it. This track will be a definite fan favorite among women everywhere who have endured a tough break up.
"Bad Girl" finds Danity Kane taking on a "bad girl" persona when the lights go out. Seeing that they all have different qualities, there is something for every man in this song. The track also features a very strong beat and a catchy rap by Missy Elliott. "Lights Out" is another great track with features the writing skills of the group members. This track is very danceable and talks about Danity Kane's sexual prowess when the lights go out. "Poetry" is one of the strongest tracks on "Welcome to the Dollhouse". It talks about one's life been written every day like poetry. This track has great direction and good substance.
Some of "Welcome to the Dollhouse" misses are "2 of You", "Pretty Boy", and "Strip Tease. "2 of You" is a danceable track that shows Danity Kane talking about a guy who is with somebody else but his love for the new girl is so good, there must be two of him. This song lacks in concept and really comes off as an album filler. "Pretty Boy" is probably "Welcome to the Dollhouse" weirdest track. The instruments and sounds that are used distracts from the lyrics. It is just way too much even to dance to. "Strip Tease" is just what you think it is. Being sexy is an art and if you try to hard to be sexy, it just comes off as too much.
Overall, "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is a good album. I give it a B. While Danity Kane's "Welcome to the Dollhouse" doesn't touch any new ground, it moves on a well built road that is proven to make hits. It is where "Welcome to the Dollhouse" fails in songs, Danity Kane makes up in their personalities. You actually like them as individuals and want to hear what Danity Kane has to say. I will agree with you that four intros is a lot. Usually I only see a couple on a CD, but there are artists/groups that intros work well for. One example would be Donnell Jones. Whenever he does an intro, I always wish it was a full song and am disappointed when it ends.
