Danny Gokey Disappoints on April 14's American Idol
Danny is easily ranked in the upper half of contestants as far as his vocal talents go, but he has put together some questionable arrangements and song choices that hurt him at all the wrong times. Even the judges are in agreement that this kid is loaded with vocal talent, but I have to agree with Simon in that this performance was just disappointing.
Over the last few weeks, we have all come to expect a top notch performance out of Danny. He has proven that he can sing a ballad or up tempo song and still have the girls screaming at the top of their lungs. What he has not done is capitalized on momentum that he builds up over a couple of weeks. However, he does seem to time out his bombs on the perfect days. While this was far from his best performance, it was equally distant from the worst ones of the night.
One thing that is troubling about Danny is that he does not take direction at all. If you recall, Smokey Robinson gave him some tips during Motown week about not using the background singers for a line and he totally dismissed it. If you were like me, you were looking to how he would pull this off and then the singers did the line. He did the same thing tonight in regards to hand movement when Tarantino specifically told him to let up on the hand movements and use his eyes. The camera's even tried to help him in this regard and they still got into the picture.
This is something that he has also done with the judge's advice on numerous occasions. It is almost as though he thinks he knows everything and can do it on his own regardless of who the information if coming from. This competition just got very tight for the number two positions and Danny lost some very important ground on Tuesday night. He needs to start acting on the advice that he is given or he is going to be out in the next couple of weeks.

Post a CommentI don't give a fig for what "direction" they are giving Danny. I LOVE his amazing voice and I think he's great just the way he is. It seems these days you have to be all contrived like Adam in order to wow the crowd, but Danny does just fine with his silly dancing and I personally think his hand movements truly fit the songs he sings and don't know why they are trying to get rid of that natural part of an artist.
I just hope Danny picked a totally groovin song for tonight and that he will just let it all OUT cuz he's got the power to move people!
I agree that Danny is extremely talented. Read my other articles on him as I believe he is one of the singers in this year's cast that is all but assured of a conract regardless of where he finished at. If you have also read any of my other articles, you will realize that I am far from an Adam supporter, but his last two weeks were excellent.
The bottom line here is that I don't think Danny listens to the advice that is being given to him and he could be so much better if he would do that. He will be around for a while in this competition as even on his worst day, he is far better than at least 3 of the other contestants. He is just not going to have as much wiggle room in the next few rounds. He needs to take their advice and keep belting out the tunes with his twist. When he does that, he has just as much talent and charisma as Adam.

He sang so beautifully last night it was so tender..Not every song has to be really strong or loud this was a quiet tender moment. You are the only one who responded negatively to him..He has got tons of positive support and you failed to mention that Simon said HE was a brilliant singer and it emotionally touched Simon and thaat Paula said it was a beautiful beautiful rendition.
He also took off his glasses so you could see his eyes and he did use his hands less but so what its his way of expressing himself and the song..as many other professional singers do.
He is not going anywhere and was number one on votes so print your garbage for somebody else to read Adam Lambert supporter...
