Danny Gokey Wins Over Judges with April 7 American Idol Performance

Danny Gokey continues to improve each and every week and if Kris Allen isn't careful, he will pass right by him and take over as Adam Lambert's main competition for this year's American idol. If there is one contestant that has taken every bit of criticism and learned from it, it is Danny.

He has had his bad weeks, but the difference is that he takes the comments for what they are and corrects his performances to make sure that they don't happen again. Tuesday night he sang "Stand by Me," and he added a lot of different touches that made it a wonderful performance.

When I first heard the title that he was going to sing, I was quite shocked. He was born in 1980 and had access to a lot of really fun rock songs that would have had the crowd energized and dancing in the aisles. Instead he started out with a very jazz/blues version of the song, but managed to show off his vocals in the process. He also did some great voice riffs during this time that further proved that this kid can flat out sing.

Just as I was getting a little bored with the song though, he threw it into high gear and totally let loose. This was the Danny that I was hoping to see all night and it was a great finish to the evening. He can go to bed on Tuesday night and know full well that he will be hanging around for several more weeks.

He continues to impress the judges and win them over and that is extremely important with that one save still up for grabs. There are four, maybe 5 contestants that I think the judges would use it for and he is definitely one of them. He was a close second to Adam tonight, but miles ahead of everyone else.

Hysterical! And just when I was thinking that Gokey was only getting worse! He coasts by on a sob story from week to week without taking any vocal change-ups or song chances. He's not as great as he thinks he is. Adam and Allison have him beaten by a mile.
