When visiting my nephew, who lives in Lincoln Park, I noticed a new coffee shop called Dark Cloud: Urban Coffee Lab, located at 2122 North Halsted Street in Chicago's DePaul/Lincoln Park neighborhood. Being a coffee lover, I was intrigued by the name and decided to stop in. The atmosphere did have a kind of stark bright laboratory feel to it, but it didn't have too many tables. Since it just opened in mid December, 2010 I'm not sure if too many people know about it yet, but when word gets around, they will. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about coffee and brewing techniques and where the coffee originated from.

My coffee was made on a siphon-type device and was one of the best cups of coffee I have ever tasted. I was not overwhelmed by strong bitterness that sometimes is present when I get my morning coffee from other coffee houses. My coffee had a slight chocolate hint to it, and my niece got a latte. After her latte was poured, the middle of her cup had the most beautiful design to it, almost like a flower. I'm looking forward to going back, because my nephew told me that they also do food pairings. I missed the one that was held on January 2, 2011, but Chef Tony plans on holding future pairings, that I would like to attend. I believe the food pairing classes are free, too.
