Dark and Discolored Armpits - What Can Be Done?

Lance Esondi
There are a variety of skin problems that can happen anywhere on the body. The armpit is no exception to a number of problems. Some might have an odor or wetness issue. Others suffer from things like razor burn. Some have dark and discolored armpits that don't match the area of the skin around them.

This dark armpit issue causes problems especially for women who wear clothing that shows this part of the body. It can be embarrassing to wear certain types of shirts knowing that the skin around the underarms just doesn't have the right shade as the rest of your body. There are things that you can do about this.

You have to first deal with any wetness issues that you might be having. With too much exposure to moisture the skin will eventually look a bit different than the other skin that isn't constantly wet. This means you might have to change antiperspirants to help you get something that will be able to prevent wetness as much as possible.

Some of the discoloration might be caused by the coloring in the deodorant or antiperspirants that you are using. Some can stain clothes and even your own skin. Try to get a clear gel and test it for awhile to make sure this isn't the issue.

Shaving can cause a problem for your underarms if it's too rough on the skin. The skin gets irritated and will be a different color. You need to get sharper razors, smoother shaving cream, or find another way of dealing with underarm hair that doesn't irritate your skin.

If you are a larger person, many parts of your underarm area is covered during the day. This means that it's not exposed to light or air like other parts of your skin. You might have to reduce your weight significantly to see results if this is the cause of the problem.
