Dark Road

Sarah Bassam
Dark road, it's time to say,

"Goodbye, I leave today,"

But my hands are tied and bound,

I am promised to this ground,

And I can't stand to linger sadly

For one more day.

Dark road, I'll pay you what you want,

Just get me away from all that haunts.

Somewhere where a poet can be.

Where I can write of birds and bees,

Run with stallions in the breeze,

And not drop onto my knees

Because this pain has stopped me,

Once again, from breathing.

Dark road, I need to get away.

I need to dance in different rain,

And fill my lungs with air,

That isn't poisoning.

I just want to turn and walk away,

Forget about all these days,

And start anew somplace,

Where no one knows my name.

If only dreams could come true.

If only bombs weren't made,

Of the same stuff

Dreams are made of too.

Dark road, take me away.

Far away.

My name's Sarah, I'm 18 and I live in North Vancouver, BC. They say to write what you know. Now, I'm unsure of what I know, so all I can do is write what I believe, see, remember and imagine. Fingers crosse...  View profile
