Dark Sector Review (PS3)

S.R.
Dark Sector is a first person shooter video game for the Playstation 3, developed by Digital Extremes. Dark Sector, yet another first person shooter game available for your Playstation 3 console. If you're looking for something just a little bit different, this may be for you.

Story : The story for this game is really generic. You're apart of the US military and you have to kill a bad guy. The story here isn't very good, but that shouldn't be the reason you play this game anyway.

Graphics : The graphics here are quite good, and extremely comparable to other games of it's time. There were no graphical errors or glitches when I played and everything ran smoothly. The textures and detail are all top notch, and everything is animated realistically. The backgrounds look quite good but aren't very immersive overall.

Sound : The music is quite good. Almost all of it is ambient, but it serves it's purpose well and blends into the background augmenting the game play. The sound effects are top notch and all the weapons sound great and are really fun to listen to as you use them.

Game play : The game play is mostly good. The glaive, which is the centerpiece of the game, is one of the most weapons to wield in any game. There are also guns, but for pure fun factor you'll want to utilize the glaive for as much of the game as you can. Unfortunately, the hit detection in this game is really bad. Many times you'll miss opponents entirely and be frustrated as you try to position yourself perfectly to hit them. It's very aggravating and not fun at all.

My other gripe with this game is the fact that there's tons of henchmen. Far too many in fact. This game makes Maximum Carnage look like a joke. You'll spend hours and hours fighting the same henchmen over and over and over and it's enough to make you just shut the game off and say ''why bother?''.

Re playability : Dark Sector unfortunately doesn't have much replay value. There's two difficulties, but they're still basically the same. No New Game Plus, either. Basically, if you've finished the 1 player game once, there's no reason to play it again. Multi player has a King Of The Hill style mode, which is loads of fun but outside of that there isn't much reason to play Multi player either.

Overall : 6/10. Everything in the game is mostly decent but overall it just falls flat. Strictly mediocre, though I'll give it one extra point for effort.
