Darrelle Revis Agrees to New Contract with New York Jets; Will Play in Jets Vs. Ravens Game

Darrelle Revis' new contract is just about exactly what he wanted. The New York Jets and Darrelle Revis agreed to a new contract, one that will cover the next four seasons in the NFL. According to ESPN, the deal is worth $46 million over that time, with $32 million coming in guaranteed money. It boils down to an average salary of $11.5 million for each season of the contract, and it puts Revis among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL. That's what he had wanted, and the Jets have to be happy they escaped without having to pay $100 million for their star defensive player.

The sides are expected to sign the contract on Monday, which should get Revis on the field in time for the Ravens vs. Jets game next Monday. That will change the entire outlook of that opening game for these New York Jets, and basically shuts down one side of the field for the Ravens. If Revis has made sure to keep up with his personal conditioning drills, then he will probably be able to walk on to the field at full speed. That is exactly what the Jets and their fans want to see, especially after a preseason where they had to face the prospect of possibly playing the 2010 season without him.
