Darrelle Revis Says $30,000,000 Not Enough

Jacob Horn
So we have another idiot who is doing everything he can to hurt his teams chances of making the Super Bowl by refusing to practice. Darrelle Revis, no doubt a good corner, has decided not to show up to camp because he is not making enough money. See, Revis signed a 6 year deal in 2007 but in professional sports if a player gets drastistically or even minimally better, that player can decided to void the old contract and seek a new contract that has more money involved.

This is why I hate the player's unions.

If you read anything I write you know that I rail and rant about this frequently. I will continue to shout about this as long as I live. If professional teams could lower the salary of an underperforming player I would have no qualms about this. Say, Joe Schmo signs a 4 year, 20 million dollar deal and after year two his talent has markedly declined, his team can go to him and work out a compensation package that takes into account the decline in talent.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN.

Please tell me if I am wrong about this. I would be more than happy for someone to say that this happens all the time and I have just missed it for the past 15 years. It is now very normal for players to be able to ask for more money in the middle of a valid and binding contract. That is completely unfair until teams and owners can cut the pay of an underperforming player during the middle of a valid and binding contract.

The player's unions would never allow something like that too happen. I just wish that as fans we would do more to hold players accountable to everyday norms.
