Dave and Busters in Indianapolis: A Restaurant Review

Janet Trieschman
Dave and Busters just graced Indianapolis with a newly opened establishment. It is located near Castleton Square Mall on the North East side of town. Its address is 8350 Castleton Corner Drive Indianapolis, IN 46250. We chose to try it out for our date night this week.

We pulled into the rather crowded parking lot for a Thursday night outing. We thought at first there was something going on, there were four or five uniformed men that appeared to be police from a distance gathered near the front door. Upon closer viewing, we realized they were security guards. Still somewhat off putting, we were not sure what the need was for so many security personnel.

We were greeted at the door by two gentlemen holding the door for us. We went to the desk and were quickly greeted and asked if we were planning on dining, playing or both. We were going to do both. We were offered seating in a pub setting, the bar or the restaurant area. The pub seats were closer to the game area, while the dining room was quieter. We opted for the dining room.

The menu appeared to be vast in choices, but we were interested in the dine and play options. There were eight meals to choose from where we could pay a bit over fifteen dollars and receive a ten-dollar play card for free. I chose the chicken parm sandwich and my husband chose the double cheeseburger. Mine came with a Caesar salad and his with French fries, we shared both. Both meals were very tasty and I would order the same thing again. We didn't try the desserts as we are both watching our weight however the dessert tray I saw upon entering appeared delicious with a variety of options.

Our server was Grant and he was very helpful and knowledgeable, especially for a new establishment. There appeared to be quite a large wait staff from what we saw. We were surprised to see children in the restaurant and playing games with a bar present but since a half wall encapsulated it I guess it fulfills the necessary requirements as being contained.

After our satisfying meal, we went to the game area to play. Many of the games provide tickets for successful play. A few higher end games did not. There are a few games that offer winning tickets for every play making them more children friendly. The price system seemed a bit strange receiving 48 credits for ten dollars. Upon completion of play, you turn in your tickets to the redemption area where they are weighed for credits. The credits are placed on your game card and can be saved or used to purchase novelties.

We had a great time and would visit again for another date night. I would consider bringing our children during earlier hours or for lunch since I assume the later the evening, the more drinking would be taking place.

The dinner and play deal stated it was available for a limited time, maybe because the restaurant is new and it is offered as a promotion to bring in guests. Wednesday is half price game play. If you register on their website, you will receive a ten dollar play credit email. There are fifty three locations across the United States.

Awful--The only edible food was the steak...shrimp was paper thin with ½ inch breading. So crowded and dirty. So many small children after 10pm on a Saturday night, we thought we were at Chucky Cheese. Big disappointment! We love the D&B in Chicago! Big ADULT fun, great food...don't waste your time at the Indianapolis location.

Well to start, Black Expo is in town this past weekend (and next weekend) and the restaurant was full of parties (huge parties). They complain that service took to long. Who gets really fast service when you are part of a party of 15 or more. Duh... They were loud, obnoxious, rude and cussed at the waiters. Thank heavens for gratuity added to parties of 8 or more, because it was a 100% accross the board waiters weren't tipped but a few dollars per table for bills of 50.00 and up, if you were lucky. So, to all of you, if you can't afford tipping 18% on avg. for good service, stay home or go to McDonalds. Nobody wants to wait on you ignorant people.
