David Archuleta Begins Post-Idol Career with 19 Recordings/Jive Records

David Archuleta Signs with 19 Recordings/Jive Records: American Idol is over, and this is where the real contest begins. Anyone familiar with the show realizes that the strength of an artist has everything to do with establishing a fan base and little to do with actually winning. Take Daughtry, he didn't even make the top two. However, he has gone on to become one of the top mainstream rock artists of this decade.

Enter David Archuleta. This seventeen-year-old sung his way into young girls' hearts with a Disney-like innocence and the voice of a seasoned professional. But in the end, not even millions of screaming girls could rescue him from the throes of mediocrity. On the other hand, we have David Cook, possibly the most genuinely original artist the show has ever seen. His appeal was incredibly wide as he has an excellent voice, captivating performance, and most importantly, originality. In the end, this won him the title of "American Idol."

Now that the season is behind us, it remains to be seen who really has the staying power. However, the wait won't be long as Archuleta just signed a deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Hopefully the producers at 19 and Jive can work with Archuleta to bring him out of his Disney niche. This is going to be a struggle as it seems that Archuleta is honestly just an innocent and nice kid with a good voice, and in this industry, innocence only sells at Disney.

But there's hope yet, as Archuleta's clean-cut image puts him away from the tabloid fodder and allows parents to feel comfortable buying his albums for their kids. Not to mention, with such a mature voice, he could do quite well without buying into the modern image, so long as he doesn't try to fake the whole Justin steal-your-girlfriend-out-from-under-you persona. This would pretty much ensure his demise as an artist because we all know it's not him.

19 Recordings/Jive Records would be doing themselves a favor to market Archuleta to an adult contemporary audience, as this is where he will find real success. His voice is perfectly suited to the style, and his youth can add a spark to the often dull offerings of such AC artists. So, let the true contest begin. In the end, my money's on Cook.

I am really shocked so many people do not get angry when a young man who is trying to be a fine singer and person at the same time is bashed repeatedly by the media and Cook fans. I am quite sure young David A will be in for a wonderful life and career. I was moved to tears during his singing of Imagine and others. I am in my forties and have lived quite some time in the real world. I feel I can rest easy in my choice to support a fine young singer who God has blessed with talent, uncompromising faith and good looks. Unlike the other David, I would trust this young man to go on a date with my daughter if she were of dating age. I do not know many musicians I could say that about. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU YOUNG DAVID. Keep your faith and we will all buy your records!!!!

The contest is over, it is what it is. Instead of David Archuleta worrying about how many albums David Cook sells, as his fans let us help beat LiL Wayne's record of selling over a million CDs in one week, which was done last week and hasn't been done in 3 years. I think David Archuleta has a wide enough appeal throughout the world, that this will allow him to do this, why shoot for mediocrity. FYI, if you buy the CD at Best Buy, Circuit City, Target Store, etc the first week an album debuts it is usually much cheaper ($10 compared to $14-$15). Furthermore, since his album will be released most likely October or November, I plan on buying extra CDs to pass out as Xmas gifts. What could be a better gift than sharing David Archuleta's music with others?

I'm another over-teen Archuleta fan who is a smidge confuzzled by this closed-minded opinion that David and David are on a see-saw: one must be down for the other to be up. The two are vastly different in musical style and their songs will seldom be played on the same stations. Why bash Archie? He took second-place graciously. His fans support him and articles such of this won't change a single mind. Why write it? And then why put Archuleta's name in a pro-Cook article to bring the Archuleta fans running?

Another question: why do so many insist on predicting the future? The show is finished. What the Davids will do is what they will do. They have both entered a marketplace that is filled with talented musicians. The comparisons of the two are silly at this point.

Competition is over right? They are in their own business trying to make album, do you really care who's going to sell more or less? What's your gain or loss from Archuleta selling less or Cook sells more? Get a life, I think you have serious problem.

David Cook will sell more because he's the most average. Remember Chris Gains (Garth Brookes' rocker alter ego)? It was basically David Cook. Garth and David are kind of like the mean average of all popular traits boiled down into one middle-of-the-road package. He'll sell trillions because the average ho-hum American consumer will gobble it down like they do their McDonalds and their Oprah and their WalMart and their Subway Sandwiches.

From Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei and the rest of Asia David A has many many many loyal fans and admirers and they are not just teens and grannies but everyone across the age groups. Your credibility as a writer is extremely suspect and bias. Obviously you're obsessed with DC. He might be the American Idol but David Archuleta The WORLD IDOL.

    Great article.
Can't believe so many children are coming here to criticize. Good luck to Archuleta and even more to David Cook
