David Archuleta Comes to Rexburg, Idaho

Catherine Taylor
On December 4, 2009 David Archuleta came to Rexburg, ID to perform his very much-anticipated concert as part of his "Christmas From The Hart Tour". Tickets went on sale in early November and they sold out within a few hours. The concert was held at the BYU-ID Hart gym and it was filled to the brim with people. It's estimated that the gym can hold about six thousand people, so there was quite a crowd.

I made sure I got a thirty-dollar ticket because I have always liked David Archuleta because obviously he has an amazing voice for his age and he has such a sweet personality and a down to earth manner about him. According to The Fans of David website he stopped at his local Wal-Mart, along his way to Idaho, to buy a winter coat. It was certainly needed because the temperatures in Idaho ranged in the single digits.

The concert started right on time and I could tell it was a very enthusiastic audience. Is it any surprise that the majority of people attending were college age girls? In the back I saw some girls holding up signs with their apartment number and another sign saying, "we have cookies". David is such a nice guy that he probably would have accepted their offer had he seen it.

For the first half an hour of the concert another band from Utah performed. I didn't think they would be very good but I ended up enjoying their pop/rock songs. There was a thirty-minute intermission and then the big moment came, David entered the stage. The audience went wild as David started his first song: "A Little Too Not Over You".

He then continued with other upbeat songs such as "Zero Gravity"and the song "Crush",which was his first single, and the start of his career. I have never heard "Zero Gravity"before and it's a really fun song. David carried amazing energy with that song and he was all over the stage. He definitely had to reach for his water bottle after that one!

The next part of the concert was a selection from his brand new album Christmas From The Heart. He preceded the song "Pat-a-Pan" by warning us that his French may not be so good, but he was sure wrong about that. His French was absolutely amazing as his strong vocals resounded around the auditorium. Other songs he also performed from his Christmas album were "What Child Is This", "Ave Maria", and "O Holy Night."

After the concert I would have loved to go buy Christmas From The Heart, but I didn't dare even try to approach the dense crowd of people that extended from wall to wall. I have to say it was a humorous sight watching tired fathers being dragged out by their excited little daughters. I had a great time at the concert and I really recommend David Archuleta's new album. If you only want to buy one song; get "Pat-A-Pan", because it was one of the most amazing renditions of it I've ever heard. I'm glad Idaho was included in the tour and it seems David had a good time in Idaho to. After the concert he Twittered, "I loved it tonight in Rexburg! Thanks for being such an amazing crowd Idaho! So glad family and friends were there too."
