David Archuleta Gets Down with Chris Brown's With You

Last night on American Idol, a new David Archuleta was born. Gone was the Archuleta of old, when he was nervous and doing his best to convince himself along with the audience that he was having fun. One can speculate that his father's removal from rehearsals gave the boy some confidence in himself and his performances.

In the past, David Archuleta has been a slave to the power ballad. Last night, he did something different. He broke away to a certain degree and showed American Idol viewers that he is a seventeen year old that can be current. Also, he showed that he does enjoy singing, and it doesn't always make him look like he wants to throw up.

When David Archuleta picked a Chris Brown song as his second song of the night, a new side of the performer was seen. He was enjoying what he was doing when he sang With You. He had energy in his performance that had been lacking up to that point.

While his other performances were typical Archuleta, With You showed that he can bring something different to the table. He didn't have a hand in picking the other two songs, and did the most with him that he could. Over all, it was a stand out night for David Archuleta.

Hopefully, David Archuleta's father will realize that he has been holding his son back. Music should be fun for David. He has an incredible amount of talent, but his fear has caused him to be boring on many occasions. Performers that lack joy aren't fun to watch. That's what made last night so different for David. Finally, he showed that he really wanted to be on that stage, in that moment, singing that song.

David Archuleta has had a huge following on American Idol this season. Last night's episode will grab him an even larger fan base. He was fun to watch, for the first time since he sang Imagine.
