David Archuleta Self Titled Early Album Review

American Idol Season 7 Runner-Up Delivers on Debut

The Reviewer
Every year it seems as is if two American Idol albums are bound to be released before the holiday seasons. This season the first released on deck is from American Idol runner up seventeen year old David Archuleta. Will the young talented vocalist be able to release a strong debut album on the self titled David Archuleta?

The first single off of David Archuleta is Crush. The song is produced by Emanuel Kiriakou and produced by Jess Cates, Dave Hodges and Emanuel Kiriakou. The song is the standard fare pop track. The track is well produced and written and extremely catchy.

The second single is a cover of Robbie Williams' Angels. David delivers a very strong vocal delivery which is expected however the song lacks the punch that the Robbie Williams version delivers.

Touch My Hand is another non-offensive pop song. The track is fairly solid however the good vibes almost get irritating after a verse or two.

Barriers is an interesting song. The writing and the vocal delivery are very different than what you expect from David. The song is one of the better tracks on the album.

My Hands is the definition of a pop-rock summer song. This song will probably flood the radio within the next several months and be used on various commercials. The track is well executed.

A Little Too Not Over You has a slightly more urban approach to it. The song falls in the Jesse McCartney category and is another well done track.

Running is different than the vast majority of the album. On the track David's strong and crisp vocals steal the show.

To Be With You is a solidly executed piano ballad. The track works fairly well however the track might have been better as a duet with a high profile female vocalist.

Desperate is another different sounding track with a certain Justin Timberlake vibe to it. The song is interesting and unique however.

Don't Let Go is another extremely pop heavy track that will surely melt teenage girls heart's around the world.

Overall the album is what you expect from an American Idol album. There are a number of solid and radio friendly singles and a lot of filler. Overall David Archuleta gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of David Archuleta make sure you pick up his self titled debut album David Archuleta when it is available in stores on November 11th.
