David Archuleta Sings 'Angels' by Robbie Williams

8 finalists left in 'The Greatest Talent Show on Earth', so time to give the contestants some more freedom in their choice of songs. This week's theme was 'Inspiration'. Anybody who's ever listened to David Archuleta speak knew this one would be right up his sleeve. His pre-performance interview was a good prelude to what was about to come. David is inspired by many things, and choosing Robbie Williams' Angels was probably the least surprising song of the evening.

There's a risk in choosing very popular songs. Everybody knows the original and no matter how good the performance is, it'll still be compared to it, especially when it happens to be one of the most famous pop-songs of all times, made famous by one of the best pop vocalists of all times. David has shown what he can do with his voice many times, so if anybody could pull this one off, it would most definitely be him. But did he pull it off?

Even while writing this, I got torn between answering yes and no all the time. Yes, he gave an absolutely flawless performance and topped it off with a small pitch show. He looked so natural behind his piano that it's hard to imagine him being anywhere but on a stage. Singing is in his nature, it's what he's supposed to do, it's his destiny. He slipped a little bit in a few performances but nailed this one, and made sure there's no doubt he's still the number one favorite, especially now other favorites are slipping in their performances. So why am I not convinced?

Basically, for exactly the same reason. He looks natural on stage as if he's never been anywhere else. So much so, that it almost becomes boring. It doesn't look like I'm watching AI, the contest, anymore. It looks like I'm watching DA perform on a chart show. And although his performance itself might be great ,it's not surprising or exciting, it doesn't make me want to hear more of him. I know he'll be on the show again next week, preforming another great song and show the world he's a great kid with an amazing voice. But would I buy his album or pay to see him play? I'm afraid not. And in the end, that might be why he won't win this competition after all...

"He looks natural on stage as if he's never been anywhere else. So much so, that it almost becomes boring." -- what are you smoking? I guess I must have missed the message to society that humility and confidence on stage is a bad thing. *Shakes head*

You are just so jealous of David Archuleta!!! Negative article like yours should be erased!!! I hate someone like you who can't appreciate pure voice and wonderful personality like David Archuleta has. You have no right to put David Archuleta down. Next time you write about David Archuleta, you must be careful... Majority of American populations love David Archuleta!!!

  • Laughing4/10/2008

No matter what you say before, now and the future, it's rubbish! Many, many, many people will buy David Archuleta's records. His voice is pure, enchanting and refreshing. Not like David A who is just groaning, shouting and screetching, like a worn tire. Didn't you heard or read in the news, that of all the AI songs this year, David A's songs are the most downloaded. Convert that to records, and it will just be the same. He tops. So stop saying RUBBISH, it just reflects on your personality.

who ever heard of you writting this crap about David, you wish you had half the talent that david has. He is still the front runner still has the best voice in the competition and has a big fan base, so he will diffinitely win american idol.

Honestly, since when was perfection and talent wrong or bad?

  • mel4/10/2008

Since when is pure talent a flaw on American Idol? I see David A selling LOTS of albums and gaining a wide audience because soulful music never gets old. You're entitled to your opinion, but I completely disagree with you.

  • Samara4/10/2008

Pfft, HOPEFULLY David wins. Or America's insane.
