David Archuleta Still Grabbing Audience's Heart

Jason Ward
David Archuleta, 17, one of American Idols final 10 singers, blew the crowd away again last night. He is clearly one of the seasons favorites and he definitely has my vote; his voice was perfect and he hit all the right notes. And while, yes, the choice of song (You're the Voice) was an odd one, he still carried the weight and did wonderful. Simon Cowell, however, was correct, I believe, when he said he would Imagine this song being song in a kids amusement park with a bunch of children. But who cares? It just shows that David can do more than one style and still touch the audience's heart.

The question now is this: Do I think he has what it takes to actually become the next American Idol? Well, that is a hard question to answer. I did watch the other performances, and I thought that the vocals on them all either matched David's talent or were better.

For example, Chikezie's voice was so perfect he made you love him. I would have to say that from the males' side, it would have to be a toss-up between Chikezie and David Archuleta for best singer.

So, no, I wouldn't bet on David Archuleta becoming the next Idol, but I think it would be wonderful for this young shy man to finally feel some self-worth by taking home the prize. The guys favorite quote is, "You'll never be lonely if you learn to befriend yourself." That's pretty sad because it obviously means he doesn't have many friends. But I think being on the show definitely boosts him to celebrity level, which is what I think he needs and deserves for going out there and giving it his all.

One of the other great performances was the remix of "We Will Rock You" by Queen, sung by Michael Johns, I thought that was an excellent show of talent and while it might not have the same vocal strength as the some of the others, it was brilliant to watch, and very fun.

I did not say he didn't have any friends I just said he didn't have many friends, and yes it does sound like that, and no you don't have to attack me becasue of something I said about a kid you don't even know.
And I do like him and hope he wins

Like others, I don't think his favorite quote infers having no friends. I don't know about others but I would rather have fewer, closer friends, than many acquaintances. Your true friends are the ones who will drop what they're doing when you really need them. Chikieze is gone now - but while I liked his performance last week, it was too little too late. He didn't build up a fan base when it was important and it's becoming obvious for him and others (like Kristy Lee Cook) which is unfortunate. To become the next 'Idol' you have to not only be able to sing, but have a likeable personality and appeal to the broadest audience. David nails all points easily.

Umm..just because he said "You'll never be lonely if you learn to befriend yourself" doesn't imply that he doesn't have friends. He has tons of friends at his high school because he's a really likable person.
