David Archuleta: What's All the Buzz About?

What is it about David Archuleta that has the American Idol judges and viewers going ga-ga? The fact of the matter is that this young man's smile is enough to hook you in, let alone his singing talent and innocence. If you have watched the last season of American Idol you may remember Melinda Dolittle with her singing talent and sweet innocent nature. David Archuleta has the same power as Melinda had over her fans. After watching the male performers perform these past two weeks on American Idol I have to say that David Archuleta has proven both weeks that he is one of, if not the best, male performer on American Idol this season.

David Archuleta gave a performance of a lifetime this week on American Idol when he sang "Imagine" by John Lennon. I first found out that David sang this song on American Idol after having seen it on the internet and felt a bit hesitant to watch his performance. John Lennon's "Imagine" comes across as a song that should be untouched by modern day pop stars and wannabes. However I was pleasantly surprised by David Archuleta's performance of the song on American Idol. It actually reminded me of Catherine McPhee's "Over the Rainbow" performance from seasons past, though her performance was still slightly better.

But, as fans of American Idol know, singing talent isn't enough to win the competition. You also need to have personality. Luckily for David Archuleta he is an American Idol contestant who has both of these qualities. His smile is infectious and when he receives compliments from the judges he appears to be overwhelmed with joy. David reminds me of a teenage version of the Beaver, as in "Leave it to Beaver". It isn't hard to see why this young man is popular among American Idol viewers. I'm going to guess that half of his fans are tween and teen girls who may have a crush on the young Idol contestant.

Can David Archuleta win the American Idol competition? I'd say that it is too early to tell. After having thought that Melinda Dolittle would win last season I feel that anything's possible. If David Archuleta can continue to wow the judges and audience as well as bring a bit of variety to the stage I believe that he can easily become our next American Idol.
