David Archuleta's American Idol was Emotionally Mature

Demetria Dixon
For last night's American Idol Top 8 performance, David Archuleta sang Robbie Williams' "Angels." He was stellar. The Idols were supposed to sing songs of inspiration, but most failed to inspire. In fact, the only standout performances of the evening belonged to David Archuleta and Kristy Lee Cook.

Not only did David exhibit consummate musicianship but he delivered an emotionally mature performance.

"Angels" was originally written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers. It is considered one of the best pop songs ever written. David sang with such conviction that it was easy to forget that he's just 17 years old. T

he three judges offered him high praise for his performance. While he did experience a few vocal hitches, the emotional depth of his connection to the music, far outweighed any criticism that could have been levied. Even Simon, who attempted to provide a critique, realized that it was a great performance and David was sure to "sail through" to the next round. His command of the stage and the material left no doubt that he is the one to beat.

I recently ranked the top idols and placed David Cook in the top spot followed closely David Archuleta.

However, David A's star turn last night proved that he is in it to win it. With a solid fanbase, who call themselves the "Archies" and talent to spare he is sureto make it through to next week. If he keeps choosing songs that allow him to shine, he's sure to be in the Top 3.

David A. definitely did an awesome job with Angels. Those who say he is boring and lacks the maturity needed are sorely mistaken. David A. will definitely be snapped up by any recording label with the faintest clue - he'll only get better as the years go on and will obviously outsell anyone else this season. Mark my words :). I'm also going to be one of those waiting in line to buy his first CD, and the next, and the next.
