David Archuleta's 'Crush' Debuts; American Idol's Runner-Up Issues Single

David Archuleta, the runner-up on "American Idol" in Season 7 debuted the first single, "Crush," from his upcoming album on New York City's Z100 radio station on Friday morning, August 1, according to MyFoxNational Reports.

Archuleta told DJ Elvis Duran, when asked if he'd gotten much sleep knowing his single was debuting, "Not too much. I just couldn't wait, I was so jittery last night. We had a show last night in Newark and I was just still so pumped up." In fact, people were in the studio as late as Thursday night putting finishing touches on the new single.

"Crush," for those who have not heard the song, is Archuleta at his husky, breathy best. It is a simple pop song, but it works simply on the power of Archuleta's vocals. And all those screaming girls and avid fans that voted again and again for the teenager on his run on "American Idol" are going to love it.

And don't think that coming in second to David Cook on Season 7 of "American Idol" is going to hurt young David Archuleta. Not by a long shot. He only lost by a couple million votes in a contest that garnered over 90 million in one of the most hyped finale's in reality television programming history. Many had looked for him to win the competition. Although that was not meant to be, watching David Archuleta perform and interview over the past several months has endeared him to many, not just because of his amazing vocal performances but also because of his honest, bashful, self-effacing good nature. It was not difficult to believe that young David was truly happy for David Cook when his name was announced as the winner of Season 7's "American Idol."

David Cook has been busy himself, working on material for his upcoming album. David Cook has already charted with the single, "The Time of My Life," which was the winner's song on "American Idol," written by the winner of the show's songwriting competition. "The Time of My Life" went to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart and No. 1 on the Digital Chart.

David Cook explained about his wristband that says, "David is my Idol" to Gary Graff of Billboard when being interviewed about his upcoming album: "It's actually a David Archuleta wristband. I'm actually a pretty big Archuleta fan. I think he's a fantastic performer and, more importantly, a good human being. So it's just a little way to show some support."

David Archuleta signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records shortly after the season finale of "American Idol" in May. 19 Recordings/Jive Records is managed by "Americn Idol" creator Nigel Fuller.

For those who still have not heard David Archuleta's new single, "Crush", it can be heard on Z100.ElvisDuran.com.

And it doesn't matter, D. Sasha. I meant couple in the sense of "few", not "two." But that does not matter, either. The voting tabulations will always be suspect as long as they keep the results and methods of voting secret. Regardless, Cook deserved it. But David A. deserved it as well. Give them both their due...

Congrats to Archie. Crush is a great debut single. I predict huge success with it (and everything else he touches, lol).

I'm inlove with Crush, hopefully more radios play this cool song.

His song is cute, but touched up too much. His voice didn't need all that. It takes away from his vocals. David Cook didn't win by just a few million, it was 12 million.

Crush is a great single. Fun, young, and very radio-friendly. :-)

Ha ha, I loved what Cook said about having a David A. wristband. The friendship between the two former competitors is just precious.

I like the relationship that the two Davids share. They have a nice big brother/little brother dynamic.
