David comes to the rescue of homeowners that have no idea what to do with a decorating dilemma. In large rooms and small rooms, kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms, he works with color and textural elements. David creates a room that leaves the owners gasping with joy.
David was born on August 17, 1973 in Minnesota. With youthful aspirations of designing animation for Walt Disney, David attended the Ringling College of Art and Design. After completing his education at the Sarasota, Florida college, he was hired by Disney as an illustrator. His career ended at Disney when he was laid-off, and he decided to open his own studio. Bromstad Studio specialized in designing children's bedrooms. Friends talked him into trying out for HGTV's Design Star show and as they say, "the rest is history".
HGTV Design Star began with David competing against 9 others. The designers were assigned a challenge each week. One designer was eliminated every week based on the judge's scoring of the completed designs. The last designer standing won the title of Design Star. There was no doubt going in that David would win.
David Bromstad leaves a personal touch behind with every Color Splash makeover. David uses his training as an artist to create a very special painting for each homeowner. The two that really stand out in my memory are the giant slide apart bull's eye with darts on the wall behind and the giant bowl of macaroni and cheese. Not quite my taste, but very appropriate in the rooms he completed. Some of my favorites are the more conventional paintings he has left behind.
David is good, with an imagination and style I can really appreciate. I have just the room for him to do over...it's this great big sunroom that looks out over the beautiful rolling hills. It's full of windows and I just can't figure out what to do with it!
Hey David, I need a Color Splash really bad!

Post a CommentHello David,
We've been watching your show since your HGTV Design Star victory. I knew early on that you would ultimately be declared the winner of the popular TV show. Since your 'big win' your 'design rise to fame' has really been fun to watch. Color Splash is one of my favorite design shows - Your innate talent and over the top 'dreams come true' mantra brings pure joy and inspiration for your clientele and hosts of design fans.
I'm writing to you today because I miss having a kitchen. I miss the gathering place for our friends and relatives. Most of all, we miss what used to be the hub of warmth, activity and heart of our home.
December 2010, we lost our the hub of our home after an unsuspected mold issue developed behind our kitchen cabinets and flooring under the cabinetry. We immediately eradicated the problem. However, we lost one whole side of our kitchen in the process. Now 8 months later, we are still without a working kitchen. The 'hub' of our home is gone - nothing inviting or warm about it - just an ugly space begging for attention.
The problem exacerbated when the insurance company refused to cover the loss. Since the December 2010 loss, we've made the best of it in the 'worst of times' (i.e. lack of funds to tackle the restoration, compounded my husband's two major surgeries January 2011 and May 2011 - Needless to say, any restoration of our kitchen had to be put on the back burner - so to speak . . .
Now, our very limited budget and 'piece meal effort' to restore our kitchen looks to be a year-long project or more.
David, we would love to have you knock on our door!
Your fans,
Linda & Ray Santana
David Bromstad is my families favorite designer, we are going to do our room purple and white and we would like for David Bromstad to paint us a pictur with dice dominos etc...for our living room. I am doing a purple and white tribute to my boyfriends mother that he lost when he was 15 yrs old. We would love to have a painting you create in our living room. Thanks
Dear David, I've been a fan of yours since you won the contest to start your own show and I rooted for you all the way, And since I've convinced many of my friends to get HG on their TV's. My husband and I are retired and live in a condo in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our bedroom and master bath need to be remodeled. Our bathroom needs to be more handicapped accessible. The bath needs to be totally redone and the bedroom could really benefit with your expertise in color and decor and especially your paintings, that I love. Please consider us for one of your next projects.
Thank you so much for your consideration,
Jerry & Annabelle
