David Cassidy Arrested for DUI

Partridge Family Teen Idol Gets a Mug Shot

Former Partridge Family teen idol David Cassidy joins the ranks of celebrities with mugshots. Cassidy was pulled over by a Florida Highway Patrolman in Fort Pierce, Florida, Wednesday night and arrested and charged with driving under the influence. According to the Associated Press, the trooper reported that Cassidy was stopped when his car was spotted weaving.

Cassidy adamantly denies the charges and plans to contest. He said he had a glass of wine as well as a hydrocodone for back injury and had spent the morning at a funeral so he was tired. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Cassidy failed both a field sobriety test and two breath tests. Cassidy said his alcohol content was not measured properly. The trooper also reported finding a half-empty bottle of bourbon in the vehicle.

Cassidy is hardly one of the wayward teen stars we read about who end up in Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab. He's maintained a fairly spotless record thus far.

He did go through his brooding stage however, a result of trying to get over the whole teenage idol persona so his talent could be taken seriously. As a Partridge, Cassidy was one of only two real musicians in the Partridge Family. To play to the younger, teenage girl crowd, Cassidy's voice was altered on records to make it sound higher, making him sound much younger than he was.

In his memoir Could It Be Forever, he told of random sexual encounters, lots of drug use and typical teenage behavior. Since then he's gone on to build a great career involving the theatre and a Vegas show.

He posted bail on Thursday and is awaiting his chance to clear the matter up.

Weaving can be the cause of a few reasons and perhaps more like lack of concentration and sleep is what caused Cassidy's vehicle to demonstrate a driver behind the wheel had too much to drink. I am on Cassidy's side not because he has been squeaky clean in the laws eyes, but because he is in mine. A true fan that can see only a justified contestment (is that a word ?) of this case before him.
