For his first song, David Cook chose Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf. It was barroom karaoke. While his voice was right on, the performance was incredibly boring and unlike what American Idol fans have come to expect from Cook. It was a rock performance, which is Cook's forte, but it was not changed up from the original. It was the same song that we have heard thousands of times on the radio. It was hard to get into the performance. It was the kind of performance that cover bands do at bars across the country.
David Cook did manage a comeback of sorts on the show, though. When he took the American Idol stage for the second time, it was to sing the Who's Baba O'Riley. His voice took center stage as he belted out the classic. Cook hit a rough spot in the beginning of the song, when he missed several notes in a row. However, he was able to pull it together and have a solid, haunting performance for the rest of the song. When he did manage to pull it together, he gave one of the best performances of the evening. Great performances are about more than being technically perfect. One can occasionally miss the pitch and still give a great performance if they have a good stage presence and recover well.
David Cook made a great recovery, and proved that his voice can stand up to the other American Idol contestants. He will find himself in the final two in the American Idol finale. From there, it will be difficult to predict who will win. It should be Cook, but on a season where the judges are trying to direct the voting only time will tell. If it is truly a contest that is supposed to decide who has the most talent and who is the best performer, Cook will take home the prize. Either way, though, whether he ends up in first or second, David Cook will be a force to be reckoned with on the rock scene. He has already made a name for himself, and the best is yet to come.

Post a CommentHe did miss a lot of notes, I have to agree with that. But I also agree that he pulled it through.
Missed several notes at the beginning of Baba O'Riley?? Were we watching the same show?! He was perfectly on KEY!
