David Cook can sing, let that be clear. Problem is that he is by far his own biggest fan. He managed to get his self-loving part out of the way for a few weeks, but made it blatantly obvious he still believes he's this year's gift to the show with last night's performance. Maybe he was a little intimidated by everything that happened to him the last 2 weeks, but that's no excuse for a bad choice of songs. Then again, he never was afraid to take risks and go for the less easier option, and who can argue with any song when the topic is 'Inspiration'.
The performance itself then. When you do choose a lesser known song, you've got to make sure you put up an outstanding performance, something the crowd will remember you by. And that's where it all went wrong. No fancy vocal parts, rather boring song, walking through the crowd, trying to play the camera, it all worked against him and looked very amateuristic at best. At this stage, where popularity alone won't cut it anymore, a performance this weak might cost him dearly. He even seemed to realize when facing the judges that this wasn't his best performance by far and almost looked guilty by listening to their verdict.
If he doesn't make it, it would be a real shame. During the last few weeks, David has proved to be an amazing performer and delighted both the crowd and the jury with his originality. He probably hasn't wasted all his chances by making one mistake, but this far in the competition, he definitely won't be allowed another one. It took me some time to give him the benefit of the doubt and see that he is a great performer who just happens to have a bit of an ego (not uncommon for artists), but it only took him one song to fall back from his pedestal and made me think of him as an arrogant guy who happens to have a good voice. Fame comes and goes very, very fast.

Post a CommentThe guy has some swagger onstage but, like some other people said, he's a rocker and that is part of the rock package. How many times have we seen KLC or Carly Smithson argue with the judges over their comments? How many times has David Cook done the same? Never. When praised he smiles, says thank you, and leaves the stage. When he is criticized he pays attention, acknowledges the judges comments, and thanks them. I don't think David C. is any more arrogant than any of the other contestants and I would rather see a true budding Star when the competition than an "oh golly-jee" mama's boy like David A.
I meant the comments from the article writer!
These comments are crazy!! David is one of the more humble performers this year!!! Watch when the judges talk to him, and give him positive feedback....he seemes genuinely surprised by what they are saying. He is SO THANKFUL every results show when he is sent to safety. He has got a positive attitude, and the vocal chops to take this whole show.....and I hope he does. If anyone else wins, I believe this season failed.
can i just ask, how do you get arrogant from him? I don't see that at all! I don't understand...wow, he is SO not arrogant, self loving, cocky, etc. He is a really great performer with an excellent voice!
i mean that its very true about what ben said
yes thats very true
I had to laugh. David C. had been toning down the arrogance in recent weeks but on Tuesday it was irksome to say the least. He is clearly talented but he needs to get over himself and just get out there and sing. David A. might be called "boring" but he's got the overall package; talent, personality, looks. I don't mean to put David C. (and his fans) down, but nobody I know has said one thing about David C - yet they all have something good to say about David A.
You have no clue what you are talking about. David isn't "self-loving" He is playing the part of a rock star. If you haven't noticed Archulta and most of the others are rather boring to watch and if Cook can be more visually entertaining to win votes from them then more power to him. Half of the show is the visual entertainment. Ever noticed all the lights, big screens and fancy stage? Would you be happier if he stood still up there and looked like he wasn't enjoying it? Plus David has been performing on stage in front of people for a long time. He is comfortable doing it. Probably more than everybody else on the show. So what if he smiles to the camera or the crowd or tosses a pick into the audience or writes on his hand the theme of the night. He lives, loves and breaths music. And I can tell you from personal experience that he is none of these negative things you or any critic say about him. Playing music for others is what makes him happy. Shame on you and every one who says he
