David Copperfield- Show Review-"There Are so Many Magicians but Only ONE David Copperfield!"- Las Vegas-
Illusions, Entertainment,
A master of the art of illusion, David performs some of the most dangerous feats as easily as we can walk across a room. Throughout the years he has become more and more daring. These illusions demand split second timing, just moments for David to untangle himself from the restraints and escape from danger. *There have been a few accidents so we know injuries are possible.
First we watched a video which showed how much David's illusions have made him a big part of our pop culture. Recognizable by the public to such an extent, his name, synonymous with big illusions, has been used hundreds of times in films, on television programs, and even in comic strips.
There are a lot of new additions since I saw David's show last year. The biggest surprise was when he made 13 people disappear from the stage right in front of us!!! Not just one or two people, but 13. David began simply by throwing Frisbees and large beach balls into the audience. The thirteen people who caught them were invited up to the stage. The men and women sat on chairs elevated above a framed platform and after a cover was placed around the platform, they all disappeared!
David's bigger-than-life illusions are spectacular productions leaving the audience in awe. How does he do it? We can only guess.
During one of his "you- can't- believe- your- eyes" illusions, David hangs suspended upside down while his ropes are on fire. He just barely gets free before everything falls apart.
Of course there are moments of fun and humor when David goes into the audience to switch to slight-of-hand magic.
I feel his illusions are both imaginative and original. The audience never knows what to expect.
After the show while I waited to go backstage to meet him, I realized, since David goes on tour to different stages around the world, the public should know the floor is not rigged to suddenly open up for his escape.
David thinks BIG! The Statue of Liberty is the largest object anyone has ever attempted to make disappear and he did it with such a flair for the dramatic. David also floated over the Grand Canyon and walked through the Great Wall of China. With all of his dangerous illusions, I wonder what David does for excitement!
I liked the way David spoke about his family and childhood. Hebegan honing his skills at the age of eight and made his first professional appearance at 12.
Some of David Copperfield's many accolades include: David is the only living magician to appear on a postage stamp, he was knighted by the French government, won 21 EMMY awards from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, sold more tickets and grossed more money per week than Lion King, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Chicago during their best weeks. There are so many awards and honors, we cannot mention them all.
In addition to his busy show schedule and touring, one of David's humanitarian endeavors, "Project Magic" is his way of giving the gift of magic to people who have physical, psycho-social and developmental disabilities. People of any age, regardless of their handicap, can become involved in this program.
"Meet and Greet" is the biggest opportunity for the public to have front row seats then go backstage to meet David Copperfield and take a picture with him.
