Nolan Foster
David Cross, stand-up and TV comedian, has announced a fall stand-up tour, with comedian Nick Swardson as a possible opening act. Where you've seen David Cross

David Cross has drawn an immense cult following for his outrageous character acting, which was perhaps showcased best in Mr. Show, an Emmy-nominated HBO sketch comedy show in which Cross played an incredible array of absurd, strange, deranged, and wicked - yet often disturbingly "normal" - characters. This talent undoubtedly explains David Cross's tendency for quirky movie and television cameos, including small but memorable roles in Men in Black, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and the Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There as poet Allen Ginsberg.

David Cross's cult following ballooned with his involvement in Arrested Development, the Fox sitcom that Time magazine dubbed one of the 100 Greatest Shows of All Time. His character, Tobias Funke, was a hyper-feminine psychiatrist-turned-failed-actor with a seriously dysfunctional family and a crippling phobia of his own naked form.

David Cross stand-up history

David Cross's stand-up comedy and humor is often self-deprecating, crude, leftist, and controversial, and he is known to break into song, showing off his painfully hilarious, overweening singing voice with nearly paradoxical range and strength. He has released several comedy albums, including 2002's Shut Up, You Fucking Baby! and 2004's It's Not Funny, as well as Let America Laugh, his first stand up DVD, released in 1999.

2009 has been a busy year for David Cross - beyond the newly announced stand-up tour, his first book, I Drink for a Reason, will be on shelves August 31st, and later in the year, a comedy pilot co-written by Cross will premier on the UK's Channel 4.
