David Duchovny: The Sex Files?

Actor and television star David Duchovny is probably known best for his role in the hit The X-Files. On both the small screen at home and the big screen in theatres, Duchovny wowed fans, critics, and love-struck ladies alike with his acting skills in not only the television series, which lasted until 2001, but the two movies based on the same name that would follow. These acting skills, among other qualities didn't go unnoticed by actress Tea Leoni, who has since had 2 children with the star.

But it has recently been reported that the 48-year-old David Duchovny has entered rehab. Only not for drugs, like the vast majority of our favorite Hollywood stars, oh no - David Duchovny is addicted to sex. According to a statement released by Duchovny's lawyer, the actor has stated "I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction."

Really though, for those who have followed his career, is this a complete surprise? The last show David Duchovny starred in was entitled Californication. This series, which aired on Showtime, revolved around David's character who is a depressed writer who is struggling with his work and personal life. But the character had a very serious flaw - he was a womanizer, and addicted to sex!

And let's not forget some of his earlier acting appearances, either. David made his big screen acting debut in 1998 in the film Working Girl. In 1992, Red Shoe Diaries (an erotic drama that was distributed by playboy), an episode of Sex and The City in 2003, and a lot more. With titles like these under his belt, David Duchovny is obviously no stranger to women.

This may well be a case of reality copying fiction here. Maybe the temptation of being a movie star coupled with living the make believe life of being an unattached single man in Californication was just too much to bear for David Duchovny. But what does his wife of 10 years, Tea Leoni think? Well according to the couple's lawyer and publicist, she is 'supportive'.

David Duchovny is not even the first star to enter sex rehabilitation - Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas and more have all sought help for their lustful addictions. Whether or not this is an actual illness remains to be seen. Many people who claim to suffer from it, however, insist that it can ruin your life just as easy and as quickly as a serious drug addiction.
