Andy Fling
As you read the story of David and Goliath, allow the children to color the free printable coloring page. After the story, quiz them about what you just read. Ask them what they could do to trust God more, and what consequences are there for not obeying God. Finish the lesson with the craft project.

David and Goliath Craft/Game
For this craft/game you will need 6 smooth rocks, tempra paint, markers and masking tape. The children will paint each rock and then add a letter with a black marker - D - A - V - I - D or G for Goliath. The game is a twist on the game of marbles.

Story
Saul was a king that did not obey God, so God decided that it was time to find a new king. He said to Samuel, "Go to Bethlehem where you will find a man named Jesse with eight sons. One of them will be the next king."

Samuel went to meet Jesse's eight sons. He thought that Eliab, Jesse's oldest son, would be the next king. God told him, "It doesn't matter how big he is or how old he is. I look at the heart."

The last son that Samuel met was David. He was Jesse's youngest son. As soon as he saw David, God spoke to him saying, "He is the one." He anointed him with oil, which was a way of promising that he would soon be king.

During the time that Saul continued to be king, the Israelites were not getting along with the Philistines. One of those Philistines was a giant named Goliath. He was over nine feet tall. He dressed himself with armor and carried a big spear. Every morning and evening for forty days he would shout to the Israelites, "Is there any that will fight me. If you beat me I will be your servant."

No one wanted to fight Goliath. Finally David said, "Isn't anyone going to stand up to this big bully. If no one will fight him, I will."

One of the men in Saul's army heard what David said and told King Saul. Saul went to David and said, "You can't fight him, you are only a boy." David said, "I have fought off lions and bears as I tended my father's sheep and God protected me."

Knowing just what to do, David went to a nearby stream and found five smooth stones. He put them in a pouch around his waist, and with his sling he went to Goliath.

Goliath looked at David and laughed. David did not fear because he knew God was on his side. He reached in his pouch and pulled out a stone. He placed it in his sling and threw it at Goliath. The stone hit him right between the eyes, and he fell to the ground.

David, a boy after God's heart, had beaten the giant and became a hero to the people of Israel.
