David Guetta's "Nothing but the Beat": A Track by Track Review

John Myers

David Guetta has scored yet another potential smash record with his latest, "Nothing But The Beat." Ever since the release of his 2009 set of dance/club hits, "One Love," the superstar deejay/producer has gained some well-deserved popularity for his style of quality, infectious club music. The album debuted at #5 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums Chart in its first week and is already among my favorites for 2011.

The record features even more hot collaborations with some of today's hottest music stars, including Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Akon, will.i.am, Timbaland and more. Here's a track by track review of the set:

Where Them Girls At - Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida

This was the first single off of "Nothing But The Beat" and it features two of today's biggest hip hop vocalists in a hard-driving, sing-along club smash. The song has already sold nearly a million copies and is still being heard in clubs all over the place. Check out the video for "Where Them Girls At" right here.

Little Bad Girl - Taio Cruz and Ludacris

This one was released as the second single back in June and currently sits at the #5 spot on Billboard's Hot Club Play Songs Chart. With typically infectious vocals by Cruz and a hot Ludacris rap interlude, this one's already another winner. Watch the video here.

Turn Me On - Nicki Minaj

This one's Minaj's second appearance on "Nothing But The Beat" and it's a lot different than one might expect. Penned by Minaj and songwriter Ester Dean, Nicki not only raps on this one, but sings too! Though her singing voice was digitally crafted for this one, listeners will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the vocals, for sure. Take a listen right here.

Sweat - Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg has proven to blend in pretty well on a dance record every now and again. Last year he appeared on Katy Perry's smash "California Gurls" and joined Swedish pop/dance artist Robyn for "Should Have Known Better," and now he's allowed Guetta to remix the silky smooth vocals of his own song, "Wet," for this fun version, a nice blend of hard club beats mixed with tantalizing lyrics. Check it out here.

Without You - Usher

Usher is one of today's most enduring R&B singers and this track is one of the most heralded songs on "Nothing But The Beat." It was just released as the third single off the album and it's probably one of the softest tracks in the set. Tender and heartfelt, the beats to this one are as hypnotic and alluring as anything Guetta or Usher has ever done. You can listen to "Without You" here.

Nothing Really Matters - will.i.am

Black Eyed Peas' singer/songwriter will.i.am appeared on Guetta's "One Love" album on the mostly filler songs "I Wanna Go Crazy" and "On the Dancefloor," but this time around his contribution is more reminiscent of the Peas' type of dance song, with softer verses leading to a killer hook during the chorus. Though this one may not ever make it to single status, it's definitely worth listening to, which you can do right here.

I Can Only Imagine - Chris Brown

Chris Brown has been making his own waves this year with his own "F.A.M.E." record, and his contribution to Guetta's album is a nice one. Take a listen here.

Crank It Up - Akon

Akon helped produce one of the biggest hits off of "One Love" with his vocals on "Sexy Bitch" and this one surely has the potential to match its success. Seemingly the antithesis to the female subject in the former song, this girl's "not the one you'd see in a magazine," but "she's trying to make [him] fall in love again" and "she's almost there." This one has the same kind of slamming beats Guetta songs are known for and I'm sure this one will be heard in the clubs everywhere in the near future. Check out "Crank It Up" right here.

I Just Wanna F - With Afrojack, Timbaland and Dev

Timbaland and Afrojack are two of Guetta's most successful contemporaries and this one has all three signatures wrapped all around it. Add "Like a G6" singer Dev's vocals into the mix and you've got one heck of a funky song! Take a listen to it here.

Night of Your Life - Jennifer Hudson

This one is hands down my favorite track on "Nothing But The Beat!" Jennifer Hudson has some powerful pipes and her vocals on this one make it one of the dance anthems for 2011! Check this one out right here.

Repeat - Jessie J

British soul singer-songwriter Jessie J adds a very nice, melodic track to this collection, which you can listen to right here.

Titanium - Sia

"Titanium" is another potential smash for Guetta from "Nothing But The Beat." Written and sung by Australian pop singer Sia Furler, this song is slightly melancholic, yet uplifting at the same time. The tender lyrics speak of a life hardened by love and the singer's vocals are a perfect fit for this softer song in a sea of slamming beats. Take a good listen to "Titanium" right here.

So there you have it, twelve brand new hot tracks from David Guetta that'll have you dancing joyously for months to come. If you're a dance music fan like me, you'll be sure to love virtually every song on "Nothing But The Beat."
