David Letterman and His Sex Scandals

An apology solves everything, right? Well, not with David Letterman. People are appalled by his behavior, and even though he got up the guts to confront the U.S. on what he did, and expected everyone to thank him for his honest, this isn't the case. Apologizing to his poor wife Regina Lasko, who he had hurt so badly in front of millions of viewers was supposed to fix what he did. If that were the case, every cheating husband or wife out there just has to go onto public television, confess what they did and be forgiven. It's simple!

People are now finally coming out and saying that his behavior was completely inappropriate for the workplace. The workplace should be a place where people don't feel as though they have to work up the chain in a sexual manor to get where they want to go. In any other corporate job, this is known as sexual harassment. Considering there was a blackmail going on, this scandal goes further than just an affair. Therefore, how is this ok, apology or not?

Personally, if I were a fan of his show in the first place, I certainly would not be now. Sex scandals are not a joke, and it's not something that should just be forgiven just because someone was thought to be a stable honest man, hosting a long running show. Sadly, he has turned out to be an awful man behind the scenes.

If a president gets impeached for the same type of behavior, why wouldn't we close the curtains on a long time nightly show due to the same behavior? He doesn't deserve the respect of the public, or the ratings giving him millions of dollars every year. He should take some time off, and try to work things out with his wife and children, before making public apologies. Surely his wife doesn't feel any more forgiving due to his on screen form of an apology announcement.

Even if David Letterman's nightly show isn't shut down, his ratings will most likely decline pretty quickly. For those who have been hurt by an affair in the past, which is a pretty large population of people, will probably stop watching this show, for obvious reasons.

There is no way to take back what he did; the only thing to do is to move on. However, moving on with forgetfulness is unfortunately probably not an option. This situation should be made into an example so that future similar situations in other businesses don't feel as though they can get away with sexual scandals themselves. Celebrities are not exempt from wrongful behavior, especially when brought into the public view.
