David Tyree will forever be a hero to fans of the New York Giants. On Friday, Tyree will retire as a member of the franchise.

ESPN, WFAN and several other sources have confirmed that the New York Giants have signed wide receiver David Tyree to a one-day contract, allowing Tyree to retire as a New York Giant this Friday. The announcement is hardly a surprise, as Tyree was not expected to be picked up by any other team before the start of the 2010 NFL season. During a visit with Giants in June, Tyree hinted that his seven-year NFL career was over. The 2005 Pro Bowler's career officially ends tomorrow during a conference call.

Tyree, a career special teams player, will forever be remembered for his historic, phenomenal, helmet-aided catch during Super Bowl XLII. Many football fans, including those who cheer for the New York Giants, forget that Tyree also caught a touchdown pass with just over eleven minutes to go in the game, a reception that gave the Giants the lead at the time.

David Tyree will never be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The New York Giants won't retire his number this fall. Regardless of these facts, Tyree will forever be a legend in the minds of many fans of the Giants.
