'Dawn of the Dragonslayer' Premiere at Bleedfest in LA

World Premiere Marks Historic First for Women Filmmakers

Bleedfest continues championing the feminine touch of filmmaking with the World Premiere of Anne K. Black and Kynan Griffin's fantasy dragon feature, "Dawn of the Dragonslayer." The monthly film festival, mixer and charity event, "Bleedfest" in Los Angeles, California will screen the film today, September 25 at 3p.m., with a red carpet event prior.

It marks a historic first for women filmmakers as Anne K. Black is the first woman to direct a dragon fantasy film, in an often male dominated genre. "Dawn of the Dragonslayer" tells of a young man who's simple pastoral life is engulfed by a terrorizing Dragon that kills his father. In classic fantasy style, his journey to vengeance his periled with challenges that will bring him to a date with destiny and a dragon.

Filmed in Ireland, the lush landscapes and overcast gloom classically capture this medieval-esque genre piece. The film arises from a rich European mythological culture of the malevolent dragon, who cast's her shadows upon humanity. It also has its share of strong women characters, who build the backbone of a hero.

Sisters, Elisabeth and Brenda Fies are developing quite a legacy in bringing the freshest filmmakers to the screen at Bleedfest. While they've found their audience in Horror, the fantasy genre is a natural extension for slaying the testosterone driven perceptions of what a hero in horror, fantasy, or any film should be. While the Fies sisters are helping LA audiences get in touch with their feminine side, this doesn't mean it won't be "badass cinema."
