Dawn Food Products Announces Indiana Plant Closing

Another sign of the slowed economy: On Wednesday, Dawn Food Products announced they were closing their Ossian, Indiana, plant.

Dawn Food Products a company that has been around for 80 years announced that it would be closing its Ossian location at the end of June 2009. 59 employees will be effected by the closing.

Dawn Food Products a international bakery supplier will be greatly missed in Ossian, although Dawn Food Products originated in Jackson, Michigan the sweet smell of baked goods in the air has become a staple in Ossian and will be greatly missed by residents.

"I love when I walk outside and smell blueberry muffins, it was always a perk to living in Ossian," said resident Elizabeth Goodman.

Dawn Foods is located in the Ossian Industrial Park. A park that also houses T.I. Automotive, another company that has been effected by the economy. T.I. Automotive manufactures gas tanks for companies such as General Motors and Honda to name a few, and has had a steady stream of layoffs since the first of the year.

One has to wonder with the recent state of the economy and plants closing if there will be much industrial business left in Ossian. One thing is for sure the sweet smell of muffins in the air will soon be a thing of the past.

This doesn't suprise me. Dawn foods management is a joke. They have no clue on how to run manufacturing locations outside of Michigan. They loose 200 to 300 thousand a month at their Modesto California location and then send corp people to try to fix it. I see that it is working. Now its up to 350 thousand a month. I wish all the employees well because management does not care about them!
