Day Four

Patrick W. Marsh
"Sadly, in these timeless moments we have discovered that they seem intent on killing and maiming us. They have given us one week to strike a peace of sorts with them. If these meetings fail, we will find ourselves, the whole of humanity in the same position."

I have to find it,
I heard my Mom telling my Dad it was here,
they were yelling it was easy to hear.
The pistol, it must be here in the closet.
I found the key for it here, it's in a bag
that is locked. I can't find it, but its supposed
to be here.
The closet has white doors and it's dusty,
it is hanging everywhere. I can't see very well
the sunlight is barely here. So many things in here, so many things.
My Dad and I went to grocery store and the shelves
were empty, very empty there. We went to the other store
we had never been to where everything is written differently
they had food and they gave it to us for free. They said money isn't important anymore.
We thanked them.
We need this pistol, all we have is my dad's 22.
What are they how? How will they look like?
It's day four, day four, not much time left.
They won't give us weapons until the day before.
We boarded up the all windows like everyone else,
it took forever, I would hand him nails,
my Dad had a wood pile behind our house and we
moved it inside, people would steal it.
They're worried I know it,
makes me worried.
My father is on the steps with his gun,
someone stole his truck last night
we just have the car now.
I don't know that all people deserve to survive this,
it's okay I don't really know too much since I am small.
It'll be okay right, it'll be here I know it,
I just have to find it.
