Day 2 of the 2009 NFL draft began with the New York Jets, who shocked the world (or at least any and everyone who followed the draft) on day 1 of the draft.

The Jets decided to trade up again to begin day 2 of the draft in order to take a much needed RB, Shonn Greene of Iowa. The Jets gave up 3rd, 4th, and 7th round picks to the Detroit Lions in order to trade up to the top spot of the third round.

Jerry Jones was expected to have a very productive day, but Jones and the Dallas Cowboys were not as productive as analysts had predicted they would be.

The Cowboys selected Jason Williams, a LB out of Western Illinois, with their first selection of the draft in round 3.

New General Manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gene Smith, was aiming to obtain a few more picks to their total of nine during the draft. That did not occur on day 2 of the draft.

The Jaguars had overall picks 72 and 73 in the third round. With those picks, they selected DT Terrance Knighton of Temple and CB Derek Cox of William and Mary, respectively. Derek Cox was a surprising choice, but one that the Jaguars thought highly after targeting him early in the draft process.

The Chicago Bears had a very productive day 2. With all nine of the Bears' picks on day 2, they addressed all of their needs.

They focused on defense (as was expected), but also drafted three wide receivers and a guard for the offense. Guard, Lance Louis, is expected to add depth to the offensive line. The Bears were lacking an exceptional receiving corps, but hope to have found some help in Juaquin Iglesias of Oklahoma and depth in Johnny Knox of Abilene Christian and Derek Kinder of Pittsburgh.

While the San Francisco 49ers did not address their need for an offensive lineman on day 2, they did surprisingly choose a QB, Nate Davis of Ball State, in round five.

Davis will give some much needed competition to Alex Smith and Shaun Hill while adding depth.

Last to pick on day 2 of the draft was the Kansas City Chiefs. With the 256th pick overall, the Chiefs selected South Carolina kicker, Ryan Succop.

From this day forward Succop will be know as the infamous Mr. Irrelevant of the 2009 NFL Draft.

With big surprises and major trades the draft has come to an end and the real work of signing contracts and beginning mini-camps will soon begin. With the 2009 NFL Draft in the books, only time will really tell the story of the 2009 draft class.
