For some reason the date for the end of daylight saving time for 2011 seems to be a hot topic. I have had more friends and family insist that it seems "late this year" and ask what the date actually is, than any other year I can remember.
The end of daylight savings time for 2011 is 2 a.m. on November 6th 2011.
Daylight saving time always ends the first Sunday in November, but apparently my friends and family do not believe me. They insist its always in October. I have no idea why? Many seem to think it is before Halloween which is just not true.
Daylight savings time first became used extensively during WW II in order to save resources like electricity. During that time it was mandatory for all states. After WWII ended, it became optional for states and remains optional today, with some states opting out.
There is a lot of controversy over whether daylight savings time actually increases or decreases resources like electricity. I suspect it is one of those debates that will go on forever.
In a nutshell, daylight savings time always begins on the second Sunday in March and always ends on the first Sunday in November.
