Days of Our Lives Features Story Line Advertisment

Marie Lowe
Long time fans of Days of Our Lives have weathered many story lines, some good, some bad and some just plain silly.

In recent times fans have endured their favorite actors and actresses leaving the show for many reasons including budget cuts.

There have also been bizarre clips of the stars doing what I would call a 30 second trivia spot.

This consisted of a clip of some of the stars posing a question about a past story line or relationship before going to commercial. Then after the commercial, the question would be answered.

While this was educational for new fans and a memory teaser for long time fans, the concept was a little strange.

Well the new thing that has been occurring on the show are commercials written into the story line.

For example this week, Sami and EJ were about to enjoy a picnic. Sami pulls out a bag of Chex Mix for EJ. When he declines, she insists and begins to tell him that it is like a burst of many different flavors in your mouth. EJ tries it and likes it. The cameras focus on the bag and boom you have a Chex Mix commercial.

This has not been the first write in commercial on the show. There have been several in recent times.

The other one that sticks in my mind was for Midol.

it was bizarre to see two women on a soap opera discussing their monthly cycles and one holding up a box of Midol and saying how great it is and eases her bloating.

One have to assumes that the economy must be taking a toll on daytime television if some shows are having to resort to story line advertising.

And I suppose the idea isn't knew. Advertising is done in movies all of the time. When your moving actor drinks a Budweiser or some other name brand drink and the label shows, that is an ad.

At least in a movie it is not so obvious and annoying as it is in Days of Our Lives.

But on the other hand, as a long time fan of the show, I have endured many annoying story lines and will continue to do so until the day I die or the show dies.

So if the annoying write in ads are contributing to keeping the show on the air and some of my favorite actors in the cast, then I suppose I will endure them as well.

I was never into soap operas ~ think my grandmother watched this one ~ and other friends, so I have watched it. I rather like the idea of commercials being written into the story line ~ IF it reduced the number of station breaks to air regular ads.

Seems strange and a bit tacky to include brand commericals in the storyline, but I guess diehard fans will have to endure this new trend!

Great review - and these on show adds are becoming more frequent.

This has been on for years. Seems tacky to advertise in the show, but others do it too. I've seen it in movies.
