Days of Our Lives Lets Crystal Chappell (Carly Manning) Go

Crystal Chappell announced via Twitter yesterday that her Days of our Lives contract, set to expire in August will not be renewed by the "powers that be" at Days of our Lives. The news garnered so much twitter sphere reaction that Chappell ran down the battery on her Droid and took to her husband's phone, (Michael Sabatino ex-Lawrence, Days of our Lives) to keep up with the influx.

Crystal returned to Days of our Lives almost two years ago, much to the delight of Carly 1.0 fans. Carly Manning became a Salem heroine back in the early 1990's (1990 '" 1993) and was quickly paired with widower Bo Brady.

In true soap opera tradition, Bo and Carly jumped hurdle after hurdle to be together, including Carly's marriage to Bo's father, Victor, a mystery virus Bo contracted, and a mystery baby kept from Carly by Vivian (Nicholas). (Read more about those storylines here).

Though Bo and Carly never officially married, they did have a symbolic Mayan wedding in Mexico, but eventually Carly chose Lawrence and her son, over Bo.

The Bo and Carly pairing, in retrospect, worked as Kristian Alfonso's Days of our Lives Character, Hope Williams Brady was (presumed) dead. Carly 2.0 suffered in a pairing with Bo, in Crystal Chappell's second Days of our Lives stint, as she was clearly the "other woman" destined for heartache when inseparable supercouple Bo and Hope reunited.

In scenes currently playing out on our screens, heartbreak has led Carly Manning to a prescription medication addiction and onto a path as the "other woman" in another Days of our Lives pairing; that of Daniel Jonas and Jennifer Rose Horton Devereaux.

Obviously the return of Matthew Ashford as Jack Devereaux will be enough conflict for the Daniel and Jennifer pairing, without Carly suffering an infatuation for the father of secret baby number two, Melanie Layton.

The departure of Crystal Chappell may also end rumors of newcomer Quinn actually being Carly's son, Nicholas. (Nicholas thought Vivian was his mother as a child, so Quinn could be Nicholas Alamain AND Vivian's son).

As for Crystal Chappell? She and husband Michael Sabatino recently announced that they will be bringing a second web soap, The Grove, to the internet soap scene. Their first collaboration, Venice, is heading into its third season, and is nominated for a Daytime Emmy in a new category: special class format.
