Days of Our Lives Snubbed in the Acting Categories for the 34th Daytime Emmy Awards

Once again, many Days fans thought this would be the spectacular year in which this popular daytime show would shine and get nominated in the main acting categories. To the dismay and disappointment of many fans, not one single actor or actress was nominated. Year after year, ABC and CBS have dominated the acting categories. There has been speculation of a conspiracy because of this. Days of Our Lives has so many talented actors on this show, it's a travesty and disgrace as to why these people are never nominated.

Let's start with a shining example: Kristian Alfonso, who has played Hope Williams Brady from 1983-1987, made a brief return in 1990, then came back in 1994 and has remained with the show ever since. The past year, she played the hardest storyline that she has ever had to play in her years on the show: that of losing a child. Her poignant portrayal of a devastated, angry, and emotionally-drained mother touched the hearts of many Days viewers. On top of losing her yong son, she additionally discovered that it was her step-daughter who accidentally killed her beloved son, and her husband helped cover it up. We cried right along with her as she said good-bye to her young son, as she lashed out at Bo, as she fell to the floor and sobbed upon realizing that her son was dead, and as she and Bo made the gut-wrenching decision to donate his organs, including donating his liver to his niece, Claire. Anyone who is a parent knows there is nothing harder in this life than losing a child, which Kristian played to the hilt. Many speculated this would finally be her year to get recognized for her work, to no avail. If she had been on a CBS or ABC show, perhaps it would have been a different story. Why Days of Our Lives is simply overlooked year after year, is an mystery, and seemingly a conspiracy as well.

Another fine actress who continuously gets overlooked year after year is Alison Sweeney, who has played the scheming Samantha "Sami" Brady since 1992. She has the cunning ability to make one hate her one minute, then feel sorry for her the next. A case in point involves last year when she discovered Dr. Lexie Carver's secret affair. She used that knowledge to her advantage by blackmailing Lexie into lying to her sister Carrie that if she chose to have kids with Austin, they would more than likely be born with birth defects. Her world came crashing down on her when her lies were uncovered, and she felt devastated and all alone. We cursed her for lying but at the same time felt her pain and remorse when her dirty secrets were exposed. Once again, another seasoned and talented actress was simply overlooked, most likely because she was on the wrong network.

Should I also mention the talents of her leading man, Bryan R. Datillo, who plays Lucas Roberts? His quirkiness and sarcasm adds an energizing element to the show. His scene last year when he discovered his wife Carrie making out on the rooftop with her lover Austin just five minutes after she made love with Lucas was noted in "Soap Opera Digest's" Performer of the Week column. He displayed the perfect element of betrayal, anger, and resentment, but again he is on the wrong network.

Another actor worth mentioning is Stephen Nichols, who plays Steve "Patch" Johnson. After a sixteen-year long absence, he made a return just last year as, what else, an amnesiac who couldn't remember his past life or his past love, Kayla. He came back as not the Steve who longtime fans previously remembered. Instead, there was the dark, brooding, lost man who didn't know where his place was in the world and harbored resentment towards anyone who told him how he used to be, instead of just accepting the man he now was. Who could forget the scenes last December when his memories finally came rushing back to him as he finally remembered his "Sweetness?" It was as though Steve had an awakening and all the darkness he felt was gone and the light was turned back on. It was quite evident that he put 110% into his scenes as he begged Kayla to believe that he was really back.

This show simply has too many talented seasoned actors to simply be overlooked year after year. James Reynolds, who plays Abe Carver, is rarely seen onscreen anymore, which is simply an injustice. He was nominated for an Emmy in 2004, and notably was the only actor from the show to get nominated that particular year. Again, it is simply an outrage why he didn't get nominated this year. Just take a look at the scene where he discovered his wife in bed with another man. Abe has a big heart for the people he cares about and will go beyond the call of duty and display his soft tender side, but on that day when he was betrayed by the love of his life, he unleashed his fury. Let's just say he wasn't a man to be messed with that particular day and could've killed Tek Kramer for sleeping with his wife. Another Emmy worthy performance, but apparently not to the Academy.

It is quite obvious to me that the Academy who picks the Emmy nominees are completely and totally biased against NBC for some reason or another. To not even nominate anyone from this show is simply a travesty. I would welcome anyone who has a hand in picking the actors for the nominations to debate this topic with me and explain to me why none of the talented actors on the show got chosen for one single category, especially after the past year of tragedy, lies, and betrayal. It would not shock or phase me if not one single actor or actress from this show decided to snub the Emmys and not even attend this year.
