Days of Our Lives Soap Opera: My Take on the Long Running Soap

History Behind "Days"

"Days of Our Lives" first aired in November of 1965.

Location: Salem, somewhere in the good old USA (Does anyone know what state?)

The Main Families:

The Horton's - without them there would probably be no "Days"

The Brady's - Haven't you always wanted to be a Brady? No, I'm not talking about the Brady Bunch but rather a member of the Brady clan. You can usually find them sipping on a beer and eating chowder down at their Pub.

The DiMera's - Arch enemy to the Brady's and always causing chaos in Salem

Several other secondary families - Johnson, Roberts, Black, and the Kiriakis families to name a few. Even though I've listed them as secondary, many of the families do occasionally have the leading story.

Memorable Couples

Tom and Alice Horton - Tom has long since passed away and Alice is often referred to now and then.

John and Marlena Black

Bo and Hope Brady

Sami and Lucas Roberts AND Sami and Lucas Horton - changed his name to his fathers' last name after disowning his mother

Jack and Jennifer Deveraux - left the show a few years ago

Steve and Kayla Johnson

Why Do I Watch?
Mostly out of habit. However, the characters have kind of grown on me over the years. I have to say that I've probably been watching "Days of Our Lives' off and on for about 29 years. My earliest memory of "Days" is watching it with my grandmother when I was a little girl. She must have got my mother hooked on it because this was also her soap opera of choice. Anyway, here I am, I'm another generation of "Days" watcher. I have to say that it is my secret obsession because I would never watch any of today's soap operas around my child. (Daytime television has changed considerably since the early 1970's.)

Quick Overview

Many of the cast members have been with "Days" for years. Many beloved and even despised characters have come and gone, only to return again. You know how a cat has nine lives; well the people in Salem have more than nine. From switched blood tests, demon possession, amnesia, brain washing, etc this soap has it all. You will never find a dull moment in Salem.

Many of the current cast have been fired. Several long-term fans are upset and have started petitions to try and bring these individuals back.

Days of Our Lives can be seen on NBC. The rumor mill is that "Days" may be canceled by 2009. I really hope not. Those famous words "Like sand through the hour glass," will surely be missed by this fan if that happens.

ok gotta admit, they lost me for a while w/demonic possession. Though why they bother w/funerals is beyond me. C'mon, don't they know by now no one ever stays dead????? LOL. I started watching when Bo & Hope got together.
