The site is easy to use, both for selling and buying. Anyone can post an ad. You must select your state and city, categorize your product, and then add a title and description and even a photo if desired. When searching for something to buy, you can either browse individual categories, or you can use the search function to search for something specific.
On the Dayton Ohio craigslist, you can find anything from old couches to brand-new Nintendo Wiis. One of the best finds for me was a $25 couch. We needed some furniture for our basement, and looked around at some second-hand furniture stores. We finally found a decent couch there, costing about $150. As I was looking at Craigslist the next day, I found the exact same couch, for only $25. We called about it, set up a time to look at it, and brought it home that night. However, Craigslist items go very quickly, so if you see something you want, snatch it up. If you're looking for something specific, it's best to check back on a daily basis.
Although I've never been disappointed in any buying experiences with Craigslist, selling something can be a little more difficult. Posting an ad is simple, but finding interested parties willing to go through with a query can be difficult. Many people complain that they will have several people email them about the item, and even set up a time to come look at it, but then never show up. While this can be frustrating, you can repost an item as many times as you want.
Because Craigslist is so easy to use, and more importantly, because it's free, it's a popular website. If you're considering selling something on Ebay, you might want to try Craigslist first. You won't incur any posting or shipping fees, and it may sell faster than it would on Ebay. And if you're looking for something to buy, check Craigslist before looking at local newspaper classifieds. Not only is it easier to search for something, but you often get to see a picture of the item, and you may even find a better deal.
