Dead Baby on Carnival Dream Cruise Ship - FBI Investigating

Radell Smith
Dutch authorities in St. Maarten detained an American on Sunday when a crew member of the Carnival Dream Cruise found the 20-year-old woman's dead newborn in a cabin last week. Fox News reported that the FBI has joined the investigation by Dutch authorities, while the American woman has been returned to the U.S.

This isn't the first time that a dead person has been found on a cruise line -- or met their fatal end while vacationing. However, newborns are not typically the deceased in such cases. Generally cruise line deaths occur due to accidental causes, including falling overboard due to intoxication or attempting to cross restricted boundaries to obtain hard-to-get photo shots.

The Carnival Dream ship, which holds as many as 3,646 passengers, was slated to begin a scheduled seven-day cruise on Sunday and it was reported the ship got underway as planned after returning to Port Canaveral, Fl, where the FBI searched two cabins on the ship, according to USA Today.
