Story : The story here isn't all that unique or complex, but it's a good one regardless. The Earth's out of natural resources and humankind has to inhabit other planets. A worker on some planet goes missing and it's up to you to figure out what's going on. The story's good, there's some twists, and the characters are decent enough.
Graphics : The game is absolutely beautiful. The detail in this game is flat out amazing. You can look at any object in the game and notice the hard work that was put into it. Everything is drawn and animated to excellence here, and there's really nothing left to chance. Simply put, an extremely mesmerizing game graphics wise.
Sound : A big part of any horror game is the sound. To put it simply, this game has some of the best sound design I've ever heard. The nuance in the atmospheric sounds are just brilliant. You really feel like you're right there with your main character. The music is also very good, ambient but still interesting.
Game play : One thing I hate about 3d games is the camera. It's been years and there are still being games released where you can't see certain things with the camera. Dead Space has all but fixed that with a dedicated camera control in the right stick. That is, until you get to the zero gravity areas of the game. The camera is totally chaotic in this area and if you want any semblance of order you'll just have to pray. Let's talk a bit more about the game play though.
The objectives of the game are simple enough. You have a suit which can be upgraded and you go about the game doing what you need to do to rescue your girlfriend and leave the planet. There's loads of undead-esque monsters to tangle with you, and they look fairly cool. There's a large assortment of them too, so you'll never really get used to what's coming. Weapons wise, this game is really cool. It's hard to even describe some of the items you can use as weapons, so I'll just leave it for the game. Rest assured though, some weapons will absolutely blow your mind. The difficulty of the game is very appropriate, not too easy and not too hard. If you don't upgrade your gear the game gets hard fast but that shouldn't be a problem. The boss fights are all incredible and exhilarating.
The game play is really addicting. While it isn't very original, it does everything you need it to do with excellence.
Re playability : This game is very long. Which is a good thing. It's quite addicting, and I think this game will easily stand the test of time. It isn't the kind of game you play over and over start to finish, but is something you'll most likely play once every few years.
Overall: 9/10. Near perfect game save for some camera issues.
