"For the king crab season which was in October of 2010, the crew consisted of: Captain Derrick Rey, engineer Steve Ward, and the deckhands were Jake and Josh Harris, Ryan Simpson and Freddie Maughtai. We anxiously await the start of Season 7 of Deadliest Catch to see how the fishing vessels have fared in search of king and opilio crab."
"Now we find that the Cornelia Maria has made changes to the crew for the opilio season. The new captain will be Tony Lara, who is not new to the Cornelia Marie. He fished from 1991 to 2000 on the Cornelia mostly under Captain Phil and was the engineer and deckhand but besides that, he was Phil's good friend and is well-respected in the crab fishing community. He brings a wealth of knowledge about the boat and crab fishing the Bering Sea."
In addition to the new captain, the Cornelia Marie will have two new deckhands. Joining the Cornelia will be Dale Pruitt and Troy "Chief" Huls who come to the Cornelia with about fifty years of experience. Morgan is familiar with the Pruitt family and went to school with Chad Pruitt, Dale's brother. Unfortunately the Cornelia Marie will lose two familiar faces; Freddie will be joining the F/V Wizard and Steve will be joining Tony LaRussa's vessel, the Fierce Alliance.
I know that I will sorely miss Freddie aboard the Cornelia Marie because of the tender moments aboard the Cornelia with Josh while Phil was still in the hospital. Freddie told Josh that he lost his father while he was away fishing and wished that he could have been there for him. Because of Freddie's coaching, Josh left to be with his dad, and I am sure those last days with him meant a lot for both of them. Freddie also had a fun way about him and was seen eating fish guts and other disgusting things to the delight of the rest of the crew, The Cornelia Marie will never be the same without our dear Captain Phil, but knowing that the Harris boys will be there and having a special guardian angel watching over the boat; it should be a great next season, and I for one cannot wait for it to start.
