Dealing with Dark Under Eye Circles

Amanda B
Undesirable dark circles under your eyes can appear for many reasons. They appear because the skin underneath eyes is very thin and the capillaries show through more prominently. As we age, our skin becomes thinner and stretched. However, those who age has not caught up with them yet can also suffer from very dark circles under their eyes. If your eyes are deeply set, then a shadowing affect can appear on your face exaggerating the appearance of dark circles. Allergies also contribute to dark circles.

According to womenftness.net, "When your nose is congested, veins that usually drain from your eyes become dilated and darken." A lack of sleep, prolonged exposure to sunlight, or poor nutrition also contributes to dark circles.

The best way to combat them is to identify the cause that is affecting you. The causes can be either genetics, environmental factors, or a combination of both. If you are genetically predisposed to dark circles under your eyes, not all is lost! There are many home remedies for thickening the skin under your eyes and reducing inflammation.

The following are some home remedies that will help you to rid yourself of dark under eye circles:

Dip cotton pads in chilled rose water, cucumber juice, or potato extract and place them on your eyes for ten minutes, lie back and relax.

Place cool used tea bags over your eyes for ten minutes, lie back and relax.

Put two spoons in the freezer for fifteen minutes, then place them over your eyes, and of course, lie back and relax.

Tap lightly on the skin under your eyes. This increases blood flow.

Make a paste of lemon juice, orange lentil flour, tomato puree, and turmeric powder. Apply to dark circles and wash off after fifteen minutes.

If you are looking for a cream, make sure it is a very light cream. Applying a cream that is too heavy for the skin under your eyes will cause stretching. The active ingredients you should look for in an eye cream should be vitamin C, alpha hydroxy, vitamin K, or kinetin. Your under eye concealer should be a shade lighter than your skin and should be applied gently with a light dabbing motion.

It is of the utmost importance to remember how thin the skin is under your eyes. Daily stresses have us constantly rubbing our eyes and working at a computer for long periods can cause a lot of strain and squinting. You should also be extra gentle while removing your eye makeup. Pulling on your under eye skin will only weaken it and encourage the appearance of dark circles. A light dabbing motion is the most pressure you should put on the skin under your eyes.
