Dealing with the Everyday

Brett Davison

The Enemy thinks that I will slip
The Enemy thinks that I'll forget
The Enemy thinks my flame will fade
The Enemy doesn't know my stubborn side

The Enemy wants to keep me busy
He wants to keep God off my mind
He wants me to be lazy
He wants me to be caught up in the world

Sometimes it works
Sometimes I forget what's important
Sometimes I lose myself
Sometimes I don't see the ash that's smeared on my skin

But I keep those moments of faith and obedience
I don't lock them up
I don't throw them away
I don't always wear them
But they're never further than my pocket

Sometimes the Enemy outwits me
Sometimes I get stumped
Sometimes I put my hands in my pockets and think
Sometimes I forget what's in there
And then I ask the question that stumps the Enemy

"What is in my pocket?"

Sorry Satan, but sometimes aint enough

When I am proud I ask my Lord to crush me
When I get lost in this mortal dream I ask my Lord to wake me
When I just don't care I ask my lord to break my heart for others

I know the world
I also know its Creator

I know that when I give joy down here
He feels it up there

I know that when I am distracted down here
His heart is breaking up there

I'll slip
I'll get back up

I'll forget
I'll remeber

My flame will fade
My flame will shine even brighter

Come on, lose your patience
Cut me with that shiny dagger
Give God a wound to heal
Give me a scar with which to glorify Him
