The festive time of year can be a hard one, with troubles and stresses and especially for those who have children! Not only will you have to worry about buying the perfect gifts, but there's the Christmas dinner to cook, decorations to put up and much more. If you are struggling with this festive season, you could be suffering from holiday depression!

The first step that you must take in order to combat this problem of holiday depression is to actually accept that there is a real problem and it needs to be sorted. If you accept this, you can acknowledge the fact that you are struggling and then take small step sot make it all better. It is not possible for everyone to be in perfect control of everything and this is just a fact of life.

Once you have realized that you are having difficulty in coping, ask for help. This could be from friends or family and it can be small favors that you ask, like the Grandparents having the kids for a couple of hours or even a couple of days. These friends are family are there to help you so why not take advantage of it? Get them to help with everything from cooking to preparation and never be ashamed of the problems that you are facing. You can always help them later on so really, it works both ways and can help to combat holiday depression.

One great way is to set yourself small goals or targets that need to be met. However, don't get stressed out or upset should these goals not be met. Choose certain days throughout the week to go gift shopping or food shopping. Shopping online is a great idea as in many cases you can have it all delivered and the same goes for certain food stores. Breaking the festive season down in this manner will make it all much easier to cope with and you will see that it doesn't need to be so difficult after all and this will help to keep holiday depression to a minimum.

As well as plans and targets, you should set yourself a budget and try to stick to it. Going over this budget by a few dollars won't be such a major drama but going over it by a lot will make everything worse. Write everything down, such as the people you need to buy gifts for and food that you will need to buy. Seeing it all down on paper will make doing it much easier and holiday depression won't hit so hard.

Remember to take a break every now and again. You won't get anywhere by rushing around like a crazy person and this will just stress you out much more. Go for a coffee or have a nice relaxing bath, whatever it is, make sure you enjoy it and ensure that you always plan a little bit of pampering time.
