Dealing with Horrible or Stupid Teammates in Gears of War Online

Chris Tidwell
Gears of War is a great game, but sometimes it can be tough to put up with your teammates online. Unlike Halo 2 Gears of War relies heavily on teamwork and the actions of individuals working together to achieve a common goal, and sometimes this just does not work. Players often times use tactics that boarder on the line of cheating in order to get higher rankings, and tactics that benefit their score only and don't work towards the betterment of the team. This guide will help you deal with such problems.

One way that people try and gain ranking in Gears of War is by playing with a close group of friends and killing one another until there is one player one each team remaining. Then they wait for the time to run out and the round is a draw, neither team is awarded points and play continues indefinitely. The best they to do with people like this is try and avoid their matches, don't join matches that require a 2 rounds of play, and have 1 minuet time limits, because these are the most likely settings players using this system will use.

If by chance you do get stuck in one of these games try and hang back until there is only a few people left, then strike for the last kill. Typically players on the opposing team will not be hard to kill because they find no threat from anyone because they think it's a closed game for earning points and ranking up, not an actual fight. Because of their naïve nature enemy players will easily be taken out at close rang with the chainsaw, or shotgun.

The other kinds of teammates you have to watch out for are those who allow themselves to get killed and allow a friend to revive them constantly. What this does is earn the player reviving his friend's points and after a while they will switch off. Many times the other tem is unaware that this is going on and have a hard time killing the two players working together. These teammates are hard to deal with because they only care about points a reviving one another and will contribute little or nothing to the team as a whole.

What do you do when someone is using these tactics? Steal the revive! Hang around them and revive the fallen character before they have a chance to move, this will in many cases discourage their actions and force them to kill the opposing team in order to gain points.

Other kinds of teammates are just not too good at the game, their lack of skill is their biggest problem, and there's not too much you can do to deal with this problem. The best solution would be to follow them and add support fire and try and keep them alive, or use them as bait to lure out an enemy. Remember, bad teammates are just an inevitable part of playing online, but knowing their strategies and systems will help you to better deal with the situation.

I don't know, to see yourself on the leaderboads I guess? But it all leads to those playes being very unskilled because they are not used to actual gameplay. Thanks for the comment

Cheating the game like you mention..sounds like a pointless waste of time...what the hell is the point in even bothering to play?
